Abstract
The present study was undertake to investigate the relationship between serum lipids and hypertension.
Serum lipids were measured n 130 cases of normal Korean. and 63 patients with hypertension.
The results obtained were as follows;
1. The mean values of serum lipids in hypertensive patients were 161.4¡¾49.8mg% for triglyceride, 173.0¡¾45.3mg% for cholesterol, 140.9¡¾62.5 mg% for phospholipid and 555.6¡¾116.4mg% for total lipid, and the values of serum lipoproteins were 249.6¡¾81.5 mg% for ¥â-lipoprotein, 127.7¡¾30. 1 mg % for pre-¥â-lipoprotein and 186.8¡¾87.4 mg% for ¥á-lipoprotein.
The values of triglyceride, cholesterol, total lipid and pre-¥â-lipoprotein were elevated significantly in hypertensive patients than in normal control subjects.
2. The mean value of serum cholesterol was elevated significantly in hypertensive patients complicated with cerebrovascular accidents than in uncomplicated group.
3. The mean values of serum triglyceride, cholesterol, total lipid and pre-¥â-lipoprotein in hypertensive patients complicated with acute myocardial infarction were lower than those of uncomplicated group, and the values were high in patients with old myocardial infection.
4. The mean values of serum triglyceride and pre-¥â-lipoprotein in patients complicated with renal failure were higher than those of uncomplicated group, and the values decreased considerably in patients complicated with congestive heart failure.
5. The mean values of serum lipids and lipoproteins in hypertensive patients were partially related with blood pressure, proteinuria and funduscopic findings.
6. No significant difference of serum lipid and lipoprotein levels in relation to duration of hypertension and E.K.G. abnormality was observed.
7. The incidence of hyperlipoproteinemia in hypertensive patients was 47.6% and the most frequent type of hyperlipoproteinemia was type IV.
